"It has not been easy since the beginning. I had no money, but I had the enthusiasm. You know, my parents had no money. But I think for me it has been better, because I know that with nothing I can do something… If you have passion, nothing is impossible. If you are obsessed by something and you want to do it, you will find a solution to do it..." - Jean Paul Gaultier

rantnrave:// Are fast-fashion knockoffs a form of piracy? Or is it all a remix?... Can wearables be functional and fashionable?... RAY-BAN's gotta be happy about VP BIDEN's first INSTAGRAM post. This is okay but SAMSUNG's in hot water over DAVID ORTIZ's selfie with OBAMA?... As a man who counts beard-growing among his few innate talents, I'm not pleased about this PEAK BEARD nonsense... Daily dose of cultural disorientation: this Japanese typeface that blends KATAKANA with OLDE ENGLISH.

The A/W14 Fashion Material Dictionary
Every season fashion throws out a word that has editors reaching for their dictionary. There was devoré (a pattern formed by burning the pile away with acid), Trompe-l'œil (a visual illusion in art) and the season Versace created Vunk, Donatella's high end take on punk.

Fear not the hipster beard: it too shall pass
If you haven't been outdoors in a few years, you might not have noticed that beards are back. Back in such a big way that apparently many New York hipsters are paying north of US$8,000 for " facial hair transplants " to embellish their patchy beards.

Last fall, while I was working as a book designer for the Aperture Foundation, the photography nonprofit, a first-edition copy of of Danny Lyon's The Bikeriders from 1968 was placed on my desk in a plastic folder. The Bikeriders is the first book by the now-legendary photographer; copies like the one I was given go for $700.
